1930’s

The 1930’s in America was dominated by the great depression, the repeal of the prohibition of alcohol, and the mass internal migration resulting from the Oklahoma dustbowl. Washington state was a large recipient of Oklahoma immigrants looking for work. The WPA provided a large amount of funding for infrastructure expansion in Spokane including High Drive, Rutter Parkway and an expansion of Felts Field. WM. Winkler CO. was able to take advantage of this development to further its curb and walk business the marks of which can still be seen in parts of Spokane to this day.
